The World Health Organization reports that the world is catching up with the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, although challenges remain. While the outbreak had an initial head start, the organization notes that testing is improving.

Confirmed cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo have reached 344, with 60 confirmed deaths. In neighboring Uganda, nine confirmed cases have been registered, including one fatality.

The number of suspected cases has seen a sharp decline, falling to 116 from previous estimates of 906. Overall, increased testing has reduced the total case count from 1,100 to 437. Many individuals on the suspected cases list were cleared out after investigations revealed they were sick with other diseases or were experiencing a fever.
