Michigan synagogue shooting leaves gunman dead
An active shooter situation unfolded Thursday afternoon at Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan, a Detroit suburb. Reports indicated a vehicle rammed into the building, followed by gunfire. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, responded to the scene. Authorities confirmed an assailant was killed after crashing a truck into the synagogue. Security personnel engaged in a shootout with the individual, who was reportedly armed with a rifle. A large police presence remained as the situation unfolded. Initial reports described an “apparent vehicle ramming” and an active shooter. While the suspect is deceased, no injuries to others have been reported at this time. The synagogue, the largest Reform synagogue in the United States, sustained damage from the vehicle impact. The incident occurred about 25 miles northwest of downtown Detroit, prompting a significant response from Michigan State Police and other agencies. Investigations are ongoing.
