Jim Furyk, a 17-time winner on the PGA Tour, has been named as the U.S. team captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland. The PGA of America confirmed the appointment on Friday.
Furyk takes the role after Tiger Woods removed himself from consideration following his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence on March 27. Furyk becomes the fourth U.S. captain since 1979 to be given a second chance to lead the team.
Furyk previously served as captain in 2018 in Paris, a match marked by a dominant win for Europe in which his four captain’s picks went 2-10-0. He returns as the Americans attempt to get back on track against a European side that has dominated for the last three decades.
Europe is coming off a second consecutive victory under captain Luke Donald, who will also return for a third stint in Ireland. Last year, the European team held on to a record seven-point lead after two days at Bethpage Black to secure their win.
