In June, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked a previous attempt by the president to reinterpret birthright citizenship law, ruling in favor of broad citizenship rights for babies born in the United States. One of the most conservative justices complained that the ruling was so sweeping it would even cover so-called birth tourists.
Following the Supreme Court's rejection of his broader attempt, President Trump signed two new Executive Orders. The president stated that these orders were made with adjustments keeping the June decision in mind.
