South Carolina Republican voters will return to the polls Tuesday for the fourth time since June to determine who will replace the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham on the November general election ballot. The runoff election will decide which Republican candidate succeeds Graham in the Senate.
The GOP nomination is a contest between Representative Ralph Norman and Darline Graham, the sister of the late senator. The closing days of this electoral sprint included a campaign rally with President Trump and a major debate gaffe.
Reese Boyd, the chair of the Horry County Republican Party, remarked that the campaigns for Graham and Norman have been unusually rushed. Boyd noted that while preparations for such races typically last a year or as long as 18 months, this process has not followed the normal way of things.
The winner of the Republican runoff will go on to face Democrat Annie Andrews in the midterm election.
