Democrats have launched a new push to prevent President Donald Trump from using the US Postal Service to curb mail-in voting. This multifaceted legal battle is expected to return swiftly to the Supreme Court.
A group of 24 states and the District of Columbia has filed a lawsuit against the USPS to prevent it from enacting a new rule that would grant the agency control over mail-in ballots. The 25 jurisdictions argue that the rule violates the Constitution and federal law.
Under the rule in question, election officials would be required to provide voter information to the USPS and utilize federally reviewed, uniquely barcoded ballot envelopes.
Although the US Supreme Court previously ruled in favor of the changes backed by President Trump, new challenges have been filed to contest the rule.
