Twenty-two migrants died while attempting to reach Europe from North Africa, after six days at sea in a rubber boat off the coast of Greece. Survivors shared this information with the Greek coastguard.

The coastguard reported that 26 people, including a woman and a minor, were rescued by a European border agency vessel near Crete on Friday.

According to survivor accounts, those who died during the journey had their bodies thrown overboard on the orders of the smugglers onboard the vessel, after supplies of food and water ran out.
