Israel strikes Tehran as Iran attacks Gulf energy facilities

international relations armed conflict

Israel and Iran continue to exchange strikes, escalating tensions across the Gulf region as the conflict enters its third week. Recent attacks have targeted energy facilities in Iran, Kuwait, and the UAE, including oil refineries and offshore natural gas fields.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was reportedly killed in joint U.S. and Israeli strikes. Israel has launched new waves of attacks on Beirut and Tehran, while Iran has responded by striking an Israeli oil refinery in Haifa.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated Tehran is “weaker than ever” and praised cooperation with the U.S., while also indicating a pause on attacks targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure following a request from former President Trump. The U.S. has temporarily eased sanctions on some Iranian oil.
