Andrew and Tristan Tate, social media influencers known as manosphere personalities, appeared in a Miami federal court on Thursday to seek release on bail. The brothers have been held in a federal detention center since July 18 as they contest their extradition to Britain.
The Tates are wanted in the United Kingdom on multiple charges, including rape, human trafficking, and sex trafficking. The brothers have denied all wrongdoing.
Their lawyer, Howard Srebnick, urged US magistrate judge Lauren Louis to grant bail, arguing that the defendants are not a flight risk. Srebnick stated that the brothers had regularly appeared in court in Romania, where they were on pre-trial release, as evidence of their reliability.
A federal judge will now consider whether to free the brothers from custody while they challenge the extradition to face the charges in the United Kingdom.
