Vice President JD Vance admitted during a podcast interview with Joe Rogan that the Trump administration absolutely screwed up the communications regarding the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Vance acknowledged that the handling of the documents has been a significant political liability for Donald Trump since the start of his second term, drawing bipartisan disapproval due to repeated delays by the Department of Justice.
Vance pointed largely to former Attorney General Pam Bondi, stating that she overstated what the administration possessed. This included Bondi's claim that a client list was sitting on her desk and the Justice Department's distribution of binders labeled The Epstein files: Phase 1 and Declassified to conservative influencers. While Vance noted that he does not believe any malicious intent was involved, he explained that Bondi was attempting to respond to the political moment, which ultimately led the public to mistrust the administration's transparency efforts.
The controversy led lawmakers to pass a measure compelling the government to release a massive trove of documents, including interview transcripts, grand jury testimony, call logs, and photos. The Justice Department began releasing these materials in late December. This admission from the vice president comes as the administration faces ongoing Epstein-related questions as part of the confirmation process for the new attorney general.
