Typhoon Noul made landfall early Sunday in the coastal area stretching from Hong Kong to Guangdong province. The storm battered southern China and Hong Kong with strong winds, heavy rain, and gale-force winds.
In response to severe weather forecasts, authorities evacuated more than 340,000 people and suspended work and rail services. The region remained on high alert as dozens of flights were cancelled.
As it moves inland, Typhoon Noul has weakened to a tropical storm. However, flash floods are expected in parts of Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu, and southeastern Xinjiang from Sunday evening through Monday evening.
