Ghana challenges Canada's denial of World Cup visa for Partey over rape charges

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey will be unable to enter Canada for his team's World Cup Group L opener against Panama on Wednesday. The midfielder was denied entry and a visa by Canadian authorities as he awaits trial on rape and sexual assault charges in England.

Ghanaian officials and the country's government filed an appeal and an application for emergency relief in a Federal Court. However, a judge dismissed the bid on Tuesday, ending Partey's challenge to enter the country for the match in Toronto.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz stated that the team is prepared to play their match against Panama with or without Partey. While he will miss the opening game, the former Arsenal player remains eligible to play in Ghana's following two matches, both of which will take place in the United States.
