A gunman killed at least five people in the streets of Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district on Saturday before taking hostages and barricading himself inside a nearby supermarket. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that at least five people were killed and 10 others were hospitalized following the attack.

Police launched a special operation to apprehend the suspect, who had barricaded himself within a shopping mall. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that negotiators attempted to contact the gunman for 40 minutes, but these efforts failed.

Special tactical police units eventually stormed the store, where the gunman was shot dead while resisting arrest. Televised footage of the scene showed police taking cover in the mall as shots were fired and bystanders were escorted away from the area.
