A Jetstar A320 and a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 narrowly avoided a collision on the tarmac at Sydney airport at 7am on Sunday. The incident occurred when the Qatar Airways aircraft was towed into the path of the Jetstar plane, forcing the pilot to brake firmly to avoid an impact.
Both aircraft stopped abruptly during the encounter. As a result of the sudden braking, a Jetstar cabin crew member aboard the A320 was injured.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. This event marks the second near miss at Australia's busiest airport in two weeks, as the facility continues to struggle with staff shortages.
