Paris police are investigating more than 100 allegations of mistreatment, physical violence, and rape of children as young as three by school monitors. These incidents reportedly occurred during lunch breaks, nap times, and after-school activities at dozens of state nursery and primary schools. Parents' groups have stated they fought for years to be taken seriously as France faces a widening child abuse scandal.
A 36-year-old kindergarten aide, identified as David G., recently went on trial in Paris accused of sexually assaulting five preschool children. This marks the first public hearing amid a flurry of allegations and is the second trial since revelations of sexual abuse in after-school services emerged.
The scandal has led to probes at more than 110 institutions since the start of the year. Over 70 school employees in the capital have been recently suspended or fired due to allegations of sexual abuse and other misconduct. In the first three months of 2026, Paris suspended 78 aides, including 31 suspected of sexual abuse. These developments have increased pressure on authorities to protect children in after-school care.
