An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has killed more than 400 people and continues to spread. Since the outbreak was declared in May, the highly infectious disease has had a fatality rate of just over 31%.
The virus is spreading beyond its original hotspot in the northeast, with a new case detected in the major city of Kisangani. Located nearly 600 kilometers from the epidemic's epicentre, the city's arrival of the virus has left authorities struggling to contain the spread.
DRC President Félix Tshisekedi warned that epidemics do not recognise borders as health officials work to contain the outbreak.
Meanwhile, the UN says another human rights catastrophe is unfolding in Sudan around the besieged city of al-Obeid.
