A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to reinstall exhibits and signs concerning topics such as slavery and climate change at national parks and monuments. These displays had been removed because they did not align with the administration's preferred narrative.
In the ruling, the judge stated that history cannot be faithfully told while excluding the experiences of communities whose contributions, struggles, and achievements form an important part of the nation's story.
The removals followed a March 2025 executive order issued by President Trump, which directed national parks to avoid displaying elements that inappropriately disparage Americans, whether past or living. The administration had also asked national park visitors across the U.S. to report displays or exhibits that said negative things about Americans.
As part of the court order, the Trump administration must provide a weekly status report describing the progress made with these changes.
