US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared before a Senate committee on Tuesday to request additional funding for the escalating military campaign against Iran. Hegseth stated that the Pentagon needs nearly 70 billion dollars, specifically requesting 67 billion dollars in additional funding.
The cost of the campaign has already reached 37.5 billion dollars. This figure is up from the 25 billion dollars provided by Pentagon officials in late April, although reports suggest the actual amount is much higher.
The hearing turned combative as lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties criticized the move. Senators questioned Hegseth with a barrage of questions, demanding explanations regarding the military's strategy to either win or end the war.
US Republicans are currently preparing a 95 billion dollar package to fund the military along with other White House priorities.
