Pakistani police mistakenly shoot and kill Australian child

A nine-year-old Australian girl from Perth, identified as Hania Ahmed, was killed and two of her family members were injured after being shot by police in Pakistan's Punjab province. The incident occurred Wednesday night in Chakwal while the family was visiting relatives.

The family was traveling in a rental car when they were robbed by suspects who held the passengers at gunpoint. Police responding to the robbery exchanged fire with the suspects.

The suspects eventually fled the scene on a motorbike. However, as the family began to drive away, additional police arriving at the scene opened fire.

The fatal shooting of Hania Ahmed by a Punjab Police officer has caused a furore.
