China's commerce ministry has accused the United States of AI hegemonism and warned it would retaliate. This escalation follows statements from senior U.S. officials indicating that Chinese artificial intelligence companies could face investigations, sanctions, and trade restrictions over the alleged theft of U.S. technology.
The United States alleges that Chinese companies improperly used American models to train their own systems. In response, China has warned that it would take all necessary measures and countermeasures if the U.S. moves to sanction these companies.
The Chinese commerce ministry also claimed that many American artificial intelligence enterprises have distilled Chinese models during their own research, development, and training processes. This quarrel has since pulled in issues involving chips, sanctions, and senior White House officials.
