A federal appeals court has ruled that the Trump administration cannot implement tighter rules for mail-in voting ahead of the midterm elections this November. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a Justice Department request to let federal officials move forward with an overhaul of mail voting.
The ruling leaves in place an order from a Boston judge that declared the president's policies unlawful. A lower court had previously ruled that some parts of the order were unconstitutional, allowing several Democratic-led states to secure an injunction.
Donald Trump has made winning approval in Congress for a divisive package of voting restrictions called the SAVE America Act one of his top priorities.
