Three men have gone on trial in Ensenada, Baja California, for the 2024 murders of two Australian brothers, Callum Ryan Robinson, 33, and Jake Martin Robinson, 30, and their 30-year-old American friend, Jack Carter Rhoad. The defendants, Jesús Gerardo García, known as El Kekas, Irineo Francisco N., and Ángel Jesús N., are charged with murder and aggravated robbery.
The victims were on a surfing trip along Mexico's Pacific coast in April 2024 when they were attacked while camping in a remote beachside area. Their bodies were found several days later in a cliff-top shaft with gunshot wounds to their heads.
Prosecutors say the men were killed during an attempt to steal their pickup truck, which was later found burned near the bodies. Silva Raya, the former partner of García, was previously sentenced to 20 years in prison after admitting she instigated the robbery to steal the pickup's tires.
Martin Robinson, the father of the Australian brothers, attended the hearing with his wife. The trial is scheduled to continue Tuesday.
