A federal judge in Washington ruled Friday that President Donald Trump's name was illegally added to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ordered the administration to remove all physical signage and eliminate references to a Trump Kennedy Center from official materials and the building's website within 14 days.
In a 94-page ruling, the judge stated it was crystal clear that the arts complex was named for the late president John F. Kennedy and cannot be renamed without an act of Congress. The Kennedy Center's Board of Trustees had voted in December to rename the institution, ten months after Trump removed several trustees.
The judge also blocked the Trump administration from closing the cultural and arts venue for major renovations. The decision prevents the center from winding down its programming and closing for two years of repairs, stopping the president from temporarily closing the national cultural institution.
