Pressure on FIFA president Gianni Infantino has intensified as opposition emerged from both external critics and within world football's governing body over a proposal to open the World Cup to private investment.
The controversial plan to sell off stakes in a World Cup company has since been abandoned.
Arsene Wenger, FIFA's chief of global football development and former Arsenal manager, is the latest to criticize the proposal. Wenger backed the decision to drop the sell-off plan, stating that scrapping private investment in FIFA competitions was absolutely necessary and beyond question.
