OpenAI brings models to Amazon after ending exclusivity with Microsoft

technology cloud computing

Amazon Web Services announced on Tuesday that it will begin selling OpenAI's generative AI models to its cloud customers. The offerings include OpenAI's latest models, a new agent service, and the Codex coding agent.

The move follows a decision by Microsoft to end an exclusive reselling arrangement that had given Azure sole access to OpenAI's technology for the first three years of the generative AI era. During this period, Amazon watched as cloud customers seeking OpenAI's latest tools took their business to Microsoft.

The availability of these models comes a day after OpenAI revamped its relationship and loosened ties with its longtime partner and backer, Microsoft. AWS noted that the decision to provide these services was driven by customer demand.
