The Football Association of Wales has formally withdrawn its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino's re-election bid for the 2027-2031 term. Wales is the first nation and federation to publicly withdraw its backing for Infantino's continued leadership of the organization.
The decision follows a loss of confidence in Infantino's leadership after a botched effort to sell stakes in the World Cup's commercial rights and other FIFA competitions to private investors. The FAW characterized the situation as a failure they cannot accept.
Infantino announced last week that he was shelving the widely denounced plan, which had been rejected by three confederations. However, his decade-long reign at the head of FIFA continues to face intense scrutiny.
