Two runners break two-hour marathon barrier in London as Sawe sets world record

Kenya's Sabastian Sawe made history at the London Marathon on Sunday, becoming the first man to run a marathon in under two hours in a competitive race. By winning the event, Sawe set a new world record and successfully defended his title.

Sawe completed the 26-mile race with a time of one hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds. This performance smashed the previous world record of 2:00:35 held by Kelvin Kiptum by 65 seconds, beating the mark by more than a minute.

Other highlights from the event included Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha, who posted a time of 1:59:41. In the women's marathon, Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa retained her crown and broke her own world record.
