US eyes Iranian assets for Gulf allies' reconstruction

The Trump administration is seeking to steer Iranian assets toward helping U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf rebuild from damage inflicted by Tehran and to repair any future destruction. The Treasury Department will use these assets to assist Gulf allies in recovering from damage caused by the Iranian regime.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has directed a team to assess the costs of damages already inflicted on Gulf allies by Iran. This move follows a wave of attacks by Iran against Kuwait and Bahrain.

The disclosure comes a day after an adviser to Iran's supreme leader said that a peace deal hinged on the release of $24 billion in Iranian assets frozen by the United States.
