Germany has appointed former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp as the head coach of the men's national team. The German Football Association announced the appointment on Friday, July 24, confirming that the 59-year-old has signed a four-year contract.
Klopp takes over following the departure of Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked after a dismal 2026 World Cup campaign that saw Germany knocked out in the round of 32. The appointment is intended to lead a new era for the four-time world champions as they look to build toward future international tournaments.
Before this appointment, Klopp last coached in 2024 at Liverpool. He most recently served as Red Bull's Head of Global Football, leading Leipzig and New York, but is ending that contract less than two years into his tenure to take the role.
