Manhattan prosecutors moved on Thursday to drop a third-degree rape charge against disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. The decision comes after the accuser, aspiring actress Jessica Mann, stated she did not want to testify in what would have been a fourth trial.
Prosecutors cited the accuser's extraordinarily taxing ordeal, noting that she could not endure testifying again. The rape charge had remained unresolved following an overturned conviction and two subsequent hung juries, including a mistrial in May when jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
Despite the dropped charge, Weinstein remains behind bars. He stands convicted of another sexual felony in New York as well as others in California.
