Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska announced Friday that she will oppose Todd Blanche's nomination as attorney general, narrowing the confirmation path for President Donald Trump's choice to lead the Justice Department.

Murkowski joins Senator Susan Collins as the second Republican senator to say she will vote against the nomination.

The Alaska Republican stated that the country requires an attorney general capable of checking the worst impulses of the administration, adding that she does not have confidence that Blanche can achieve that goal.
