President Donald Trump has threatened to bar the Montreal-based private jet maker Bombardier from selling its aircraft in the United States unless the company begins manufacturing within the country. Accusing Canada of unfair practices, Trump stated that if the company wants access to the U.S. market, it must build there and stop treating America like a piggybank.
This threat follows previous tensions in January, when Trump threatened to decertify Bombardier aircraft. That action was a response to what he described as Canada's refusal to certify certain U.S.-made Gulfstream planes.
The announcement comes amid an escalating trade fight and on the eve of Canadian retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion of U.S. goods, which are set to take effect Tuesday. Additionally, the president has repeated claims regarding Canadian banks as the deadline for the tariffs approaches.
