North Korea this week tested a new cluster-bomb warhead on a ballistic missile, alongside an electromagnetic weapon and a carbon fiber bomb, according to state media. The tests mark an expansion of the nation’s nuclear-capable forces.
The launches occurred over two days, with South Korea’s military detecting several ballistic missiles fired toward its eastern seas. An unidentified projectile was also launched on Wednesday, following an incident involving drones crossing into North Korean airspace.
Pyongyang has stated it has no intention of improving relations with Seoul, despite the South Korean government’s expressed desire for restored dialogue. This testing spree brings the total number of known ballistic missile tests by North Korea this year to five.
The recent activity appears to be a demonstration of Pyongyang’s capacity to fight a modern war, showcasing various new weapons systems.
