Ex-US Olympian David Hearn indicted for alleged Reflecting Pool vandalism

David "Davey" Hearn, a three-time US Olympic canoeist, was indicted Thursday on a felony charge of destruction of property. The indictment follows his arrest last month at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

District of Columbia US Attorney Jeanine Pirro stated that Hearn ripped up recently installed sealant on the bottom of the pool on June 19. Pirro described the action as a deliberate act that maliciously broke or destroyed lining material, causing more than €875 in damage.

The damage occurred following a $14.7 million renovation project, and President Donald Trump has since blamed vandals for the destruction. Lawyers for Hearn have denied the allegations, accusing the Trump administration of treating ordinary conduct as criminal.
