The Football Association has announced plans to strengthen sanctions for discriminatory behavior in English soccer. Under new guidelines, regulatory commissions will be required to impose a minimum suspension of 10 matches for incidents categorized as aggravated breaches of misconduct. This represents an increase from the current minimum ban of six matches.
The FA stated that enhanced measures are necessary to tackle abhorrent conduct that continues to be a challenge across the game. These rules will come into force at the start of the new season and will apply to Premier League players and other football participants found guilty of such breaches.
Aggravated breaches include any express or implied reference to ethnic origin, colour, race, nationality, religion, belief, sex, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, and disability. While the standard suspension is set at at least 10 matches, the FA noted that mitigating factors could result in suspensions of more or less than that amount.
