Aung San Suu Kyi, the 81-year-old detained civilian leader of Myanmar, met with the International Committee of the Red Cross resident representative for Myanmar, Arnaud de Baecque, on Monday morning in the capital. Myanmar's military-led government released photographs of the meeting, marking a rare moment of contact with the outside world.

The government released the images amid growing concern over the health of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. However, the location and date of the photographs have not been independently verified.

Suu Kyi has been in detention since February 2021, when the military ousted her elected civilian government in a dawn coup. The move triggered an ongoing civil war that has killed more than 100,000 people on all sides.
