Two collisions on a highway in western Hungary early Friday killed eight people. The accidents occurred on the M1 highway near the city of Győr, leading authorities to close one lane of traffic heading toward Austria.
The first incident took place around 4:30 a.m. when a truck collided with a construction vehicle. The truck caught fire following the impact, which killed one person and snarled traffic.
Approximately half an hour later, a minibus carrying nine individuals with Moldovan license plates slammed into a truck that had stopped on the highway due to the first accident. This second collision killed seven people and left two others seriously injured.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, stating that all of the victims were foreign nationals.
