Appeals court rules Trump's name stays off Kennedy Center

A federal appeals court ruled Wednesday that President Donald Trump's name must stay off the Kennedy Center while a lawsuit continues. The name was previously removed from the Washington, D.C., arts institution in June.

The decision comes as a three-judge panel denied a request from the Kennedy Center's board to restore the name while the board appeals an earlier ruling that dubbed the name change illegal and had it rescinded. The Trump administration is challenging a federal judge’s ruling that only Congress has the power to rebrand the institution.

The D.C. circuit appeals court denied all of Trump's arguments that sought to stop the removal of his name. The court stated that Trump failed to provide any evidence that the Kennedy Center's fundraising would be harmed if his name is not attached. Additionally, the court found that the board of trustees failed to show how they would be irreparably injured if the name remains off the building.
