athletics legal proceedings

David “Davey” Hearn, a 67-year-old former canoeist and three-time Olympian, is facing a felony destruction of property charge. He was indicted on July 2 after being accused of ripping out a portion of the sealant from the bottom of the recently renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on June 19.

Hearn entered a plea of not guilty on Thursday in D.C. Superior Court, denying that he deliberately damaged the pool.

Regarding the incident, Hearn stated that he was simply checking the current conditions.
