Israel strikes Gaza amid serious concerns over Trump's Hamas disarmament deal

armed conflict

President Trump has unveiled a US-backed ceasefire proposal calling for Hamas to surrender its weapons and destroy its network of tunnels. Under the plan, Hamas would hand over its arms to a new Palestinian governing body as Israeli forces gradually withdraw from Gaza and stop its attacks.

The proposal has faced fierce opposition from Israel's far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir. Additionally, Doron Spielman, a spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister's office, stated that intelligence assessments indicate Hamas remains committed to rebuilding its military instead of genuinely demilitarizing.

Despite the announcement of the plan, Israeli warplanes carried out separate strikes on homes in Gaza City and Deir al-Balah. Palestinian officials report that at least two people were killed in these attacks.
