The U.S. Senate largely supported President Donald Trump’s military campaign against Iran this week, rejecting a Democratic-led resolution to halt the conflict. The vote, 52-47, blocked efforts to require Congressional authorization for continued hostilities.
This marked the fourth attempt by Senate Democrats to force a vote on the issue since the conflict began on February 28th. Despite repeated efforts, the resolutions have failed to gain traction.
While a majority backed the President’s actions, some Republicans have voiced concerns as the campaign nears its two-month mark, requesting the administration justify its continuation. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has pledged to continue forcing weekly votes on the matter, citing growing unpopularity and cost.
