Russian strikes on Kyiv bridges cause traffic gridlock

armed conflict

Russian airstrikes hit the Southern Bridge in Kyiv on Friday, along with a school and apartment buildings. Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that attacks on key infrastructure are tearing the city apart. At least one person was killed in the strikes.

The attacks forced the partial closure of three bridges over the Dnipro River, which link the capital's east and west. This has resulted in traffic chaos and brought movement to a standstill. Ukraine has long feared attacks on its major transportation bridges since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In a separate development, Ukraine launched an overnight drone attack on the Russian city of Volgograd, targeting industrial facilities.
