The governor stated that federal agents have recently contacted family friends, former employees, and organizations tied to the couple. Newsom described these actions as an abuse of the grand jury process in an effort to find a crime. Reports indicate that multiple federal investigations are underway, including one specifically focusing on Jennifer Siebel Newsom's finances.
Newsom, one of President Trump's most vocal critics, believes he is being targeted because he is considering a run for president in 2028. He further characterized Donald Trump as the most corrupt president in American history. The Department of Justice has not confirmed the investigation.
