International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva arrived in Buenos Aires on Monday to witness President Javier Milei’s economic revival. This visit marks the first time an IMF leader has come to Argentina in eight years, following three deals and $57 billion in funding.
During her visit, Georgieva praised President Milei’s austerity policies, stating that these measures have turned Argentina's economy around. Such assessments coincide with growing investor confidence in the president's reforms.
Despite the praise, Georgieva noted that the economic turnaround has come at a cost, including stagnant wages and 33% inflation. Furthermore, worries persist regarding a potential debt repayment crunch that could coincide with Milei's reelection bid.
