Trump to Appear on Commemorative Coin
A federal arts commission has approved the design for a 24-karat gold commemorative coin featuring former President Donald Trump. The decision, made without objection by the US Commission of Fine Arts, paves the way for the US Mint to begin production ahead of the US’s 250th birthday celebration on July 4th.
The proposed design depicts Trump standing above the Resolute Desk. This approval follows previous efforts by the former president to have his image placed on a $1 coin, a move that would have violated federal law prohibiting living presidents from appearing on currency.
The commission’s decision has drawn criticism from Democrats, with some arguing that minting a coin with a sitting president’s image goes against American values. The coin’s size and denomination are still under discussion.
