A car bomb exploded on Tuesday outside a Defense Ministry building in the Bab Sharqi district of Damascus, killing one Syrian soldier and wounding at least 18 people. The blast occurred near the front gate of an armament management centre.
The Defense Ministry stated that soldiers had discovered a bomb ready to be detonated. As military personnel worked to dismantle the device, a nearby car exploded, resulting in the casualties. State media reported that the wounded include civilians.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, similar incidents in the past have been blamed on the Islamic State group, which has claimed such attacks since insurgent groups marched into Damascus and removed the Assad family from power in December 2024.
