A Toronto police officer was shot and killed early Thursday morning while executing a search warrant at an apartment in the north-west part of the city. The officer was shot before 6 a.m. and rushed to a hospital.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said the suspect is linked to an investigation into an attack that damaged the facade of the U.S. Consulate in Toronto in March.

During the March incident, two individuals emerged from a white Honda RV SUV around 4:30 a.m. and fired multiple shots at the building before fleeing. While the shooting caused damage to the outside of the building, no injuries were reported at the time.
