Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated Friday that Washington anticipates its operation against Iran will conclude in “weeks, not months.” He indicated the US could achieve its objectives without deploying ground troops, despite recent deployments of thousands of Marines to the Middle East.

Rubio spoke as Israel threatens to expand attacks on Iran, following Tehran’s missile and drone targeting of Israel. He expressed confidence that Iran will be weaker following the operation.

G7 nations have adopted a declaration calling for an immediate halt to attacks against civilian populations and infrastructure. Rubio made these remarks after meeting with G7 foreign ministers in France.

The first contingent of Marines is expected to arrive around the end of March.
