Walter Koenig, the actor known for playing Pavel Chekov throughout the Star Trek franchise, has died at the age of 90. His representative confirmed that he passed away at his home in the North Hollywood neighborhood of Los Angeles. According to Zachery McGinnis, founder of Galactic Productions, Koenig was surrounded by his daughter and niece, and his death was attributed to old age.

Koenig was a mainstay of the original Star Trek television series and seven films, portraying the eager, baby-faced Russian navigator of the U.S.S. Enterprise. As the sole Communist-bloc member of the spaceship's bridge staff, his friendly and supportive presence served as a demonstration of how rival nations were capable of working together.

In addition to his work in the cult 1960s show and various films, Koenig also worked as a writer. He further expanded his acting career with an appearance in Babylon 5.
