A 27-year-old Sudanese man has been charged with endangering life following the deaths of four migrants in the English Channel. The individuals, two men and two women, died on Thursday while attempting to cross from France to Britain in a small boat.

The man, identified as Alnour Mohamed Ali, was detained by UK authorities after the incident. This brings the total number of migrant deaths in the Channel this year to six.

The charge comes under a new British immigration law, and the National Crime Agency confirmed the development on Saturday. Authorities allege Ali piloted the boat involved in the tragic crossing.
